Upper Crossed Syndrome (UCS) - UCS is an imbalance of tissue around the shoulders - muscles of the chest are short and muscles of the upper back are long and weak. Besides the obvious problems of stress being put on both soft and hard tissue, it also affects energy flow back and forth between the shoulders and neck. Energy cannot flow properly if the shoulder is not sitting in the correct position, since it is the transmission of energy from the muscles of the upper body and arms, into the neck.
The Rotexaddresses this syndrome by providing the client an exercise for the shoulder in rotation - ONLY. Most other exercises use the arm to help to rotate the shoulder. When this is done, the large muscles - deltoids and rhomboids - contract, thus inhibiting the much smaller external rotators of the shoulder. The key to strengthening these small muscles is isolation. With The Rotex, the infraspinatus and teres minor get almost all the work when exercising in external rotation.
Important note: We have found through clinical studies that the transmission of fascial energy from the lower to the upper extremity – the gluteus medius and minimus, through the thoracolumbar fascia, through the latissimus dorsi, to the shoulder – has a direct affect on the opposite side shoulder. Most problems of the shoulder will persist until the gluteus medius and minimus are strengthened and returned to their proper length and strength.
