Hip/Low Back Pain and Dysfunction
- The main contributing cause of hip and low back pain or dysfunction, and sciatic pain, is due to hip and pelvic misalignment.
- There are basically three ways the pelvis misaligns – all centered around rotation:
- 1) anterior or posterior pelvic tilt;
- 2) rotation of the pelvis to the right or left;
- 3) one side of the pelvis higher than the other – rotating similar to the steering wheel on your car;
- For those biomechanics enthusiasts: 1) rotation around the X axis; 2) rotation around the Y axis; 3) rotation around the Z axis.
- There are basically two ways the hips misalign – too much internal rotation, or much more common, too much external rotation.
- Excess rotation in either direction directly affects the position of the sacrum, which directly affects the curve of the lumbar spine.
- Position of the hip directly affects the position of the pelvis. In fact, it is impossible to correct pelvic position without correcting hip position.
- It is also impossible to correct hip position without correcting pelvic position – they work as synergists.
- That is the answer. Correct the positions of the pelvis and hips in rotation and almost all hip and low back issues quickly disappear.
